چکیده

Purpose: Sticky traps are effective for monitoring and managing insect pests. In addition to pest insects, beneficial insects also caught in sticky traps. Hence, it is necessary use catch selectively. The attraction of different groups coloured was studied as an attempt suppress the populations selectively field. Research Method: traps: yellow, blue, luminous green, white, transparent (control) were set field 24 hours, collected identified by their ecological role: pests, neutral well taxonomic group relation trap colour. Findings: Significant variation found among total numbers attracted colour (χ2 =107 df=4 P<0.05). highest number green (29.1%) followed yellow (22.0%), white (18.8%), blue (17.9%), (12.2%). All pest, insects. Data inconsistent specify more pests less beneficials. More dipterans (40.7%) traps, many them neutral. Blue-traps (29.4%) compared with other Originality/ Value: behavioral response demonstrated. As both should be used under careful monitoring.

Sticky plant traps insects to enhance indirect defence.

Plant-provided foods for predatory arthropods such as extrafloral nectar and protein bodies provide indirect plant defence by attracting natural enemies of herbivores, enhancing top-down control. Recently, ecologists have also recognised the importance of carrion as a food source for predators. Sticky plants are widespread and often entrap and kill small insects, which we hypothesised would inc...

Detoxifying symbionts in agriculturally important pest insects

Pest insects lead to excessive agricultural and therefore economical losses on crops worldwide. These insects have to withstand toxic molecules that are inherent to plant defences, as well as those that are produced and introduced by humans in the form of insecticides. In recent years, research on insect-microbe symbioses has recognized that microbial symbionts may play a role protecting agains...

Community structure and its dynamics of pest, predatory and neutral insects in a jujube ecosystem.

An investigation on the insects in the jujube ecosystem in Taigu District of Shanxi Province, Northern China showed that more species and individual numbers of pest, predatory and neutral insects were found on the tree than on the ground. The ratio of the species and individual numbers of predatory and neutral insects to those of pest insects fluctuated from year to year. Homoptera, Coleoptera ...

Diversity and Abundance of Insects in Wukari, Taraba State, Nigeria

A field survey was conducted in Wukari, Taraba State to assess the diversity and abundance of insect species in selected habitats (residential, open field made up of grassland and an agroecosystem). Sampling were done biweekly using light, pitfall and yellow pan traps set in 3 replicates, 30 m apart. Insects recovered were wet preserved in 70% ethanol except butterflies and moths. Representativ...
